The University of Peradeniya is the heir to a sixty year old University tradition which commenced with the inception of the University of Ceylon. The Postgraduate Institute of Science (PGIS) is the main administrative arm who manage the project activities in Sri Lanka. PGIS is a National Institute established by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in 1996, by an ordinance made by the University Grants Commission under section 18 with section 24A of the Universities Act No. 16 of 1978, for the purpose of providing, promoting and developing higher education in science. The PGIS is attached to the University of Peradeniya and depends on the university for formulation and implementation of its academic programs.
The Kurunegala Municipal Council is the local council for Kurunegala, the capital city of North Western Province, Sri Lanka. The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (commonly abbreviated as NWSDB) is the National Organization responsible for the provision of safe drinking water and facilitating the provision of sanitation to the people in Sri Lanka. The organization had its beginning as a sub-department under the Public Works Department for water supply and drainage. In 1965, it became a division under the Ministry of Local Government. From 1970, this division functioned as a separate department under the Ministry of Irrigation, Power and Highways and remained so until the present board was established in January 1975 by an act of Parliament of Sri Lanka.
